I owe my entry into the world of "agility" to my friend.<\/strong>\u00a0Nie\u00a0b\u0119dzie pewnie dla\u00a0Was zaskoczeniem, \u017ce\u00a0Micha\u0142 jest informatykiem. To\u00a0dzi\u0119ki niemu mia\u0142em w\u00a0r\u0119kach po\u00a0raz pierwszy ksi\u0105\u017ck\u0119 \u201eAgile Software Development with Scrum\u201d, autorzy Ken Schwaber i\u00a0Mike Beedle, wydanie z\u00a02002 roku. Po\u017cyczy\u0142 mi\u00a0j\u0105\u00a0na\u00a0zako\u0144czenie d\u0142u\u017cszej rozmowy, podczas kt\u00f3rej\u00a0podzieli\u0142em si\u0119 z\u00a0nim moimi fascynacjami na\u00a0temat project management proces<\/a> i\u00a0pochwali\u0142em \u015bwie\u017co zdobytym certyfikatem PRINCE2\u00ae. No\u00a0c\u00f3\u017c, w\u00a0najwi\u0119kszym skr\u00f3cie, po\u00a0tej\u00a0deklaracji\u00a0the discussion moved towards Agile vs. PRINCE2\u00ae<\/strong>\u00a0\ud83d\ude09.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Today I know that our debate started with a wrong thesis, because\u00a0the sentence "Which is better for project management, PRINCE2\u00ae or Agile?" contains an error<\/strong>. Let us assume for a moment that we identify the concept of Agile with Scrum. The Scrum Guide presents Scrum as follows: Scrum is a simplified framework that helps individuals, teams, and organizations create value by adaptively solving complex problems. (Scrum Guide, 2020). In turn, PRINCE2\u00ae is an abbreviation of the English equivalent of the words: projects in controllable environments (manual PRINCE2, 2018).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

So where was the mistake? In the absence of defining the environment for conducting the project.<\/strong>\u00a0My friend was referring to his experience from his own company based on a small team of developers, in which product development always came first. In my mind's eye I saw large, formalized organizations whose bloodstream was internal administration.\u00a0Moreover, the products we delivered were completely different.<\/strong>\u00a0While his team worked on innovative code, I mainly implemented projects with repeatable structure and well-defined deliverables.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Today I am convinced that these differences and several other factors should be taken into account to determine what will be more useful to us.\u00a0Moreover, within one organization we can identify areas that require different approaches.<\/strong>\u00a0One of our clients developed its internal project management methodology based on PRINCE2\u00ae. It must be admitted that having defined processes, recommended procedures and diagrams of as many as 26 documents, PRINCE2\u00ae is perfect for using it as a "ready-made". The methodology was perfectly suited to the client's infrastructure projects. However, it did not work for the development of an online store, which was worked on by an internal development team. Here I recommended Scrum to them with full confidence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Of course, PRINCE2\u00ae and Scrum do not exhaust the set of action patterns that we can use. Sticking only to those close to me, I personally should mention PRINCE2 Agile\u00ae, AgilePM\u00ae and the entire range of approaches identified in the guide\u00a0PMBOK Guide\u00ae\u00a0<\/em>released with\u00a0Agile Practice Guide.<\/em>\u00a0Each of them is a source of inspiration for me, which I use on an ongoing basis in my work with clients.<\/strong>\u00a0Each contains useful tips, ready-made mechanisms and valuable advice. Nothing but "take and choose".\u00a0However, always remembering one thing: adapting to the project environment is the key to success.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
